My thumb is up to Saturdays First Star. Ill pick one every week here and this week, its James Reimer. It probably wasn’t James Reimer after two periods, but it certainly was after three periods, as his Toronto Maple Leafs edged the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2. Forty minutes into the game, Reimer had made 19 saves. In the final period, he stopped the puck 26 times for a 45-save performance in a game that could actually be called “stirring. That’s an adjective that doesn’t often apply to a game at Air Canada Centre, for a variety of reasons - the home team, the visiting team, the atmosphere or all of the above. This time, they all added up to an exciting night and Reimer stood tall as the reason the Leafs won and as a reminder of why he’s still a Leaf. Surely, there have been times the Leafs have considered trading him, and times he wished for that, but for every time that seemed like a good idea, there’s a time like last night. -- My thumb is down to injuries...well, that goes without saying, so lets say Thumbs down to too many injuries. How many is too many? Count up the number of injuries plaguing the Columbus Blue Jackets and thats too many. Theyre playing without a Vezina Trophy goalie in Sergei Bobrovsky, their highest-scoring defenceman, James Wisniewski, and six of their 10 best forwards. Its a big year for the Jackets, as they try to build on last seasons playoff showing against Pittsburgh and Columbus is playing host to the All-Star Game. Ryan Johansens messy contract negotiations threatened to spoil his and the teams start, but Johansen has played well. Its too bad much of his scoring support is missing. Scott Hartnell is the only other top forward who has suited up for every game and Hartnell has just one goal with his new team. Injuries arent supposed to be used as an excuse, but injuries that potentially can completely ruin a season might be different. Javier Hernandez Jersey .com) - The Vancouver Canucks recovered from a fluke goal early last time out to knock off one of the top teams in the league. Edson Alvarez Jersey . Durant had 33 points, 12 rebounds and six assists, hit the tying 3-pointer late in regulation and made the go-ahead foul shots in overtime to lift the Thunder past the Wizards 106-105. John Wall missed a driving layup attempt at the buzzer for Washington, which was seeking its third straight win. http://www.soccermexicojerseysteamstore.com/hugo-ayala-mexico-jersey/ . In fact, with a few improvements, this could very well be a decent team over the next few seasons. I will go into more detail when digging into the Canucks Off-Season Game Plan, which will be coming earlier this year since they are part of the non-playoff contingent, there are some reasons to think this is a favourable situation for President of Hockey Operations Trevor Linden and whomever he selects to be the new general manager. Giovani dos Santos Jersey .J. - Pete Carroll is in support of the NFL looking further into whether medicinal marijuana could beneficial for players. Guillermo Ochoa Jersey . Appearing on TSN 690 Monday afternoon, Mike Babcock said he had conversations with both P.K. Subban and Carey Price about those on-ice traits during Hockey Canadas summer orientation camp. Mike Babcock: McGill experience, P.One of the most important statistics that can be measured for a football teams success is their turnover margin. Turnover margin is the combination of two things. First it is how many takeaways the defence gets per game. Takeaways are determined as an interception, a fumble recovery or a turnover on downs. The combination of all three is called a teams takeaways. How many takeaways it got against its opponent. The other piece that makes up turnover margin is giveaways. Giveaways are fumbles, interceptions and turnovers on downs by the offence. You combine those and they will give you the teams turnover margin. Lets look at Week 1, using the Argonauts and Blue Bombers game as an example. Toronto had three giveaways and two takeaways. They finished with a turnover margin of -1. Conversely the Bombers had two giveaways and three takeaways to finish with a turnover margin of +1. That is how you measure what a teams turnover margin is by game. Since 2001, I have been charting the importance of protecting the football and how to teach it to players. Charting the winning percentage by turnover margin is one of the first things we always do and talk about. In 2001, while coaching the running backs for the Argonauts we did a number of things to have great ball security. First we were not allowed to say the word "fumble", we didnt want to even mention it, so instead we called them "POOR BALL SECURITIES" or PBS. I had a laminated action shot of every running back hanging in my office. It said under the picture, "________TOUCHES WITHOUT A PBS." The running backs would come in after the game and erase the old number and add to the total touches without a PBS for the season. We were trying to really get the players to focus on protecting the ball and make sure they were always thinking about the fundamentals of good ball security.dddddddddddd Lets take a look at how the turnover margin has affected teams in the CFL this year: • +1 turnover margin: 6-2 record and a 75% winning percentage • +2 turnover margin: 4-0 record and a 100% winning percentage • +3 turnover margin: 2-0 record and a 100% winning percentage • +4 turnover margin: 2-0 record and a 100% winning percentage • Win the TO margin: 14-2 record and a 88% winning percentage • Lose the TO margin: 2-14 record and a 12% winning percentage Lets examine last years turnover margin for a few teams. Last year after four weeks, Saskatchewan had a second best 10 takeaways and a league best one giveaway, for a +9 turnover margin which was best in the CFL after four weeks. Saskatchewan also sported a 4-0 record at the time. This year they have five takeaways and seven giveaways for a -2 turnover margin and that has led to a 1-2 record to this point. Winnipeg after four weeks last year had a league worst -9 turnover margin and a 1-3 record. They have improved that to -2 turnover margin and have a 3-1 record. They are also the only team to win when losing the turnover margin which they have done twice. Last year, Edmonton has a -2 turnover margin after four weeks and sported a 1-3 record. This season it has drastically changed for the Eskimos. They have 15 takeaways and only five giveaways for a +10 turnover margin and a sparkling 4-0 record. They have done a great job of taking the ball away on defence and have eliminated critical mistakes on offence. They are six better than the second place Calgary Stampeders with a +4 turnover margin. The surest way to be successful as a team is to win the turnover margin on a consistent basis. ' ' ' this is different than the game Im seeing in November. Its just entirely different." Thats why Brown, a former Spurs assistant, thinks theres a very small number of teams capable of winning it all. "To be the last man standing is so ridiculously hard," Brown said. "People have no idea what its like to play in June." ' ' 'nd." ' ' '
