TORONTO -- Canadas rugby road map for 2014 is taking shape. Rugby Canada announced Wednesday that the Canadian men will host Japan in an international rugby test June 7 at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, B.C. The date of the matchup had already been announced but Rugby Canada did not confirm the site until Wednesday. The match is part of a revamped Pacific Nations Cup that will see the 15th-ranked Canadians take on both No. 14 Japan and the No. 18 United States during the summer. Canada will host No. 9 Scotland at Torontos BMO Field on June 14. The Pacific Nations cup game against the U.S. will follow south of the border although no date or venue has been announced yet. Canadian coach Kieran Crowley plans a trials match in B.C. a week before the first game in June so he can review the Canadian and overseas talent at his disposal. Domestic-based players will take part in the Canadian Rugby Championship in the late summer with Crowley selecting the cream of the crop to represent Canada in the Americas Rugby Championship in the fall. The Canadians will also have three test matches in November although Crowley said dates and opposition have yet to be determined. "Weve got the six games at the moment for this year," Crowley said Wednesday from Las Vegas where he is assisting the Canadian sevens team. "Wed obviously like a few more but its (the difficulty of getting) games within the (international) windows." Canada has already qualified for the 2015 World Cup, which opens in September 2015 in England, and hopes for a busier schedule next year in the leadup. The Canadians will play in Pool D with No. 5 France, No. 7 Ireland, No. 13 Italy and Europe 2. The Pacific Nations Cup tournament is split into two pools this year, with Canada, Japan and the U.S. in one pool and Fiji, Tonga and Samoa in the other. The pool winners will meet in November to decide the tournament winner. The pool runners-up will also play each other as will the third-place teams to decide final rankings. Fiji and Canada both finished with 3-1-0 records at the Pacific Nations Cup in 2013 but the Pacific Islanders placed first by virtue of more bonus points. The 2013 event was a basic round-robin format. Canada defeated Fiji 20-18 in Ottawa but lost 16-13 to Japan in its final tournament game. Brent was released Sunday after serving about five months in jail for the wreck that killed Cowboys practice squad linebacker Jerry Brown, his close friend and college teammate at Illinois. A judge ordered Brent to spend at least 45 days in a residential facility for substance abuse as part of his sentence of 10 years of probation. Brent avoided prison time at trial -- he faced up to 20 years -- and at 26, he could presumably seek to re-enter the league. His agent, Peter Schaffer, declined Monday to discuss Brents pro prospects. "Its up to the treatment professionals as to whats best for him and he will do whatever they think is best," Schaffer said. "Nothing else matters right now." Brent and Brown were headed home from a nightclub in December 2012 when Brent lost control of his Mercedes and crashed on a suburban Dallas highway. Officers arriving at the scene saw Brent trying to pull Browns body from the wreckage. Tests showed Brents blood-alcohol level was 0.18 per cent, more than twice the states legal limit for drivers. A prosecution expert estimated that the 320-pound lineman would have had to have as many as 17 drinks on the night of the crash.dddddddddddd. Brent did not play after the crash and announced his retirement from the Cowboys before the trial. League spokesman Greg Aiello said Monday that Brent can apply for reinstatement through the office of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who must also consider whether to discipline Brent under the leagues personal conduct policy. As a possible precedent, Goodell suspended NFL wide receiver Donte Stallworth for the entire 2009 season after Stallworth pleaded guilty to a DUI manslaughter charge in Florida. While acknowledging that the league will have "a big say" in Brents future, Cowboys executive vice-president Stephen Jones said recently that the team had not ruled out his return. Team executives and players have stood by Brent after the crash, with the support of Browns mother, Stacey Jackson. Brent was starting in place of the injured Jay Ratliff at the time of the crash, and had 31 tackles in 39 games over three seasons in Dallas. Dallas County prosecutors have said they wont object to Brent attempting a comeback, as long as he doesnt violate his probation. Brent was jailed briefly before trial after testing positive twice for marijuana. His probation conditions are expected to include restrictions on drug use and travel.
