HOOVER, Alabama -- New?Georgia?coach Kirby Smart?anticipated not having one of his star running backs available at the start of preseason camp, but he didnt expect both to be sidelined.Star tailbacks Nick Chubb and Sony Michel will be limited when the Bulldogs begin full-contact drills in preseason camp next month, Smart said Tuesday. The coach isnt sure how much either one of them will be available for the Sept. 3 opener against?North Carolina?in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at?the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. It makes it tough, said Smart, who was speaking at his first SEC Media Days as Georgias head coach on Tuesday. I think its a little more stressful for the coaches, especially the offensive coaches, on how we handle those first two scrimmages. Our identity is being big and physical and we want to run the ball. Well, our two backs that are best at doing that have two question marks by them.Chubb, who ran for 1,547 yards as a freshman in 2014 and had 745 yards in the first five games last season, is still recovering from torn knee ligaments and cartilage damage in his left knee. He underwent surgery on Oct. 23, after injuring his knee on his only carry in a 38-31 loss at Tennessee on Oct. 10.Chubb, a junior from Cedartown, Georgia, was able to participate in spring practice, but was held out of all drills involving full contact. The big thing with Nick is going to be live, full-contact tackling, Smart said. Hell do pretty much everything in the first part of camp. Hell catch the ball and do drills and a lot of the thud work. The psychological part of going through the first tackling is going to be a big thing for him. We have people working with him on that aspect of it.Michel, a junior from Plantation, Florida, underwent surgery on July 4 after breaking his left forearm in an ATV accident a day earlier. Smart said Michel suffered an open wound and wasnt released from the hospital until Friday.Michel ran for 1,161 yards with eight touchdowns last season, with much of his production coming after Chubbs injury.Although doctors initially projected Michels recovery would take six to eight weeks, Smart said he isnt sure when hell be back.We dont know, Smart said. Its an injury they dont have a lot of experience with because its a non-football injury.Last season, Smart was Alabamas defensive coordinator when running back Kenyan Drake broke his left arm in a 31-6 win at Mississippi State on Nov. 14. Drake didnt suffer a compound fracture and was able to return to action three weeks later in the Tides 29-15 victory over Alabama in the SEC championship game.People say it [will take Michel] six to eight weeks, Smart said. Kenyans was less than that, but his injury was less than that.Until Chubb and Michel are available, senior Brendan Douglas,?sophomore Shaquery Wilson and freshmen Tae Crowder,?Brian Herrien and Elijah Holyfield?figure to share carries in preseason camp. With the amount of money given to players by their clubs these days, it is a wonder that so many of those teams allow the sport to continue to take away many of their assets so they can play for a different team in the middle of their season. Claire Williams has confirmed Williams has no plans to provide Lance Stroll with a Formula One practice outing before the end of the 2016 season. The Grove-based outfit is currently embroiled in a tight battle over fourth place in the constructors championship with Force India. Williams ruled out the possibility of Stroll making his F1 practice debut this year, stating the importance of allowing current drivers Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa as much running time as possible, as the team looks to overhaul a nine-point deficit to Force India. There are no plans [to run Stroll], Williams said. Were in a very critical time with the team trying to challenge Force India for that fourth place. Felipe is also retiring, so it wouldnt be fair on either driver to do that. The decision means Stroll faces the prospect of heading into his debut F1 campaign in 2017 -- and the start of a new regulation era -- with only a handful of days experience behind the wheel of a 2014 Williams FW36. Williams says she is not concerned by the likelihood of Stroll making mistakes in his rookie year. The one thing I have learnt about Lance over the 12 months weve been working closely with him is his work ethic is second to none for a 18-year-old to achieve what he has in such a short space of time, I have a huge amount of confidence that when he gets into the cockpit in Melbourne he can deliver. But he will need some time like any rookie does in this sport to bed in.dddddddddddd There may be some mistakes but that is going to be an inevitability, but we already know from Lance that he learns from his mistakes quickly.Stroll will make the jump straight from European Formula 3 to F1, following a similar career path to that of Bottas, who himself bypassed GP2 to prioritise test and reserve driver roles with Williams. The 18-year-old says he has no doubts over his ability to make a successful transition to F1, after winning this years F3 title.I won the last round of 2015 and came into 2016 with a lot of confidence, the Canadian explained. I knew the speed was there and knew that we were capable of winning races and even fighting for the championship. It was just about putting all the details together. We knew we could win but dominating the championship the way we did was definitely a year to remember. The reason for not doing GP2 is that F3 is a very high level, and if the opportunity for Formula One arises nothing prepares you for Formula One like actually competing in Formula One. GP2 is a step up and its that middle step, one that is sometimes good to make, but I dont think anything actually compares to actually competing in Formula One. ' ' '
