SASKATOON – L.P. Dumoulin finally got the oval-track win he was looking for. The road-course ace from Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, came out on top in a wild green-white-checkered finish to the Velocity Prairie Thunder 250 Wednesday in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 action at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway. Dumoulin and Joey McColm stayed out when the leaders pitted under caution inside of 10 laps to go to setup a dramatic finish on the .333-mile progressive-banked track. On the restart, new leader McColm get loose coming to the white flag and Dumoulin powered to the front. He then held off Jason Hathaway and Scott Steckly in a race to the checkered flag. It was the third career Canadian Tire Series victory for Dumoulin in the No. 47 WeatherTech Canada/Bellemare Dodge. His first two came on the road course at Ontarios Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in 2013. He also took over the championship points lead by 10 over JR Fitzpatrick. Behind Steckly, Andrew Ranger and Alex Tagliani brought home the top five. Like race winner Dumoulin, it was the best career oval finish for Tagliani. McColm salvaged a sixth-place finish, followed by Fitzpatrick, D.J. Kennington, Noel Dowler and Eric Thiering. It was shaping up to be a second straight victory at Auto Clearing for Steckly, who paced both practices and captured the pole earlier in the day. The defending event and series champion led the first 80 circuits from the pole and a race-high 153 in total. He had a commanding lead late in the race as he led 72 laps during an extended green-flag run -- putting all but five other cars down a lap -- before the final caution came out. McColm and Dumoulin had pitted much earlier in the race (Dumoulin on Lap 36) for their right side tires; drivers were allowed a maximum of two tires for this event. That left them out to fend off the challenge of Steckly and Co. on fresh tires. The race featured eight lead changes among five different drivers. Dumoulins only two laps led were the last two of the event. The Velocity Prairie Thunder 250 will premiere on TSN on Saturday, July 26 at 3 p.m. and on RDS2 on Sunday, Aug. 3 at 5 p.m. The Canadian Tire Series will return to action on Saturday, July 26 at Autodrome St. Eustache (Quebec) with the National 250. Parnell last pitched in a game on July 30. He missed the final two months of the season and had surgery Sept. 10 to repair a herniated disc in his neck. The right-hander threw 36 pitches to David Wright, Daniel Murphy and Eric Young Jr. "You work all off-season throwing bullpens with no batters in there and it seems like you cant miss a spot," Parnell said. "You throw a hitter in there and it becomes 100 times harder. It feels good to get out there and face some guys, face some hitters and find the strike zone with some intensity turnedd up.dddddddddddd It was a nice feeling today." Parnell said he was able to keep the ball down and didnt feel any discomfort in his neck or right arm. "Ive been taking a lot of baby steps," he said. "I feel great, my arm feels good, neck feels good. Everythings going well. But as far as today, this feels like a big mental hurdle. I didnt know how I would react to balls coming off the bat and I felt strong out there. I felt good and felt like I had some reaction in the neck, so everythings good." The Mets are being cautious with Parnell, but he is currently scheduled to throw a second batting practice on Tuesday. He said hell throw at least one more batting practice session before getting into a game. ' ' 'n to suit. He could go a lot better here if things pan out for him.Dutch Connection was ahead of Belardo there, as he ran a promising second to Toormore, but the ground is likely to blunt his speed and he may have to settle for seeing the backside of Toormore once again. That said, Godolphin clearly liked what they saw at the Esher track as they have since purchased the Charlie Hills-trained colt.In fact, Godolphin seem keen to get an early Group One on their CV with Home Of The Brave another they have added to their string this week. I really like this horse, but the unseasonable weather must have been a real disappointment to trainer Hugo Palmer as he is more effective on fast ground and hasnt been declared.Sadly, Limato doesnt enjoy soft ground, either, so its disappointing to see the rain has hit Newbury. Henry Candys sprint star has yet to run over a mile and the prospect of seeing a horse with his ability over the trip is exciting. If a warm, drying gale (minus the rain) doesnt hit the course he just wont line up.So, the odds on the boys in blue winning the race yet again look strong with Toormore, Belardo and Dutch Connection all leading contenders. Do I give Toormore one more chance? I think so, he has plenty going for him and continues to be well supported. Also See: Live results service Full racecards Get Sky Sports Fake Jerseys From China .
